Mother Cat and Kittens Everybody know that baby need extra care when born to the world. When your kitty had kittens, you will be a second mother. You must providing the best living environment for the kittens during first few weeks.

During that first few weeks, mother cat will spend almost all the time lying down with the kittens. It’s natural. Move the food and water close to where the kittens are, so the mother cat does not have move far to get food and water. Check the mother everyday, make sure that mother cat is producing milk. Mother cat usually stay with her kittens. So when she does not stay with the kittens, there is something wrong here.

Mother cat are prone of anxiousness. When she worry about the kittens, she may move them and hide them from everyone, even from you (owner). She also may kill the kittens if she feels very very worry. She do that in order to protecting the kittens. If you find or see your mother cat anxious, always keep your eyes to her activity with the kittens and keep her caged.

Kittens need a warm temperature. If the mother does not stay with the kittens, you must suply heat from outside, like a heat lamp. Make sure that the box where the kittens staying is about 85-90 degrees Fahrenheit. However, heat lamp can make mother cat feel anxious. You can calm down the mother by placing blanket closely over the top of the box.

Newborn kitten spend almost all their by by sleep and eat. The kitten may cry if the mother leaves for any amonunt time. But if your kittens cry excessively, maybe because they are not getting enough food or sick. Call the vet to check or handle when it happens. You also must call the vet when you have more than 5 kittens. Mother cat can not suply enough milk for all the kittens if more than 5. So, it need special treatment. So, talk to your vet about it.
